Tatiana was due March 16, 2005 and was born March 25, 2005.. being 9 days late, I was induced around 6pm at Banner Mesa Hospital. I started contracting on my own when I was admitted, then was given petocin when I arrived...I was on the petocin for 5-6 hours and had requested not to have any medication/epidural. I took a lamaze class and was in control of my breathing, although my contractions were back to back with no in between time to relax.. I was in a zone with my breathing and doing well.. the nurse then informed me that my blood pressure was too high and the baby was at risk, so they gave me some medication through epidural (walking epidural) at that point I was already dialated about a 4 and 75% effaced. After they administered the walking epidural I felt great! about an hour later, I broke my water and I was almost 100% effaced and dialated 8.. the nurse had turned down the medication through the catheter and was given a full epidural and to their surprise 30 minutes later I was ready to go! I started with a few small pushes while having to wait for the doctor to come and about 2 good pushes later, Tatiana Chrisléa Morrow was born! my placenta had abrupted and the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck.. she was pale and shockish.. she was more beautiful than ever! I had lost a lot of blood and she had swallowed about 60cc/ml of blood and fluid into her lungs.. I was able to hold her for about 3 seconds before they rushed her to the intensive care unit...where we spent 5 days, until being able to go home. I was very hungry after giving birth and wasn't able to eat because I had lost a lot of blood and when I got up to go to the bathroom I blacked out and almost completely passed out! I had to stay on iv for almost 3 days. Tatiana had a very low red blood cell count/anemia and a very high white blood cell count, she also had a low platelet count. she had low blood oxygen, low blood sugar(hypoglycemic) she also had a heart murmer. she had a red blood cell transfusion and was on 60% oxygen. she was low of potassium in her blood as well, and was given a bollust (The nurse practitioner had informed us that her white count was so high, they checked her for leukemia and said she tested negative)she was on iv for 3 days and wasn't able to eat.. then when the time came to feed her, it was hard for her to learn to eat. it took much help with nurses and lactation consultants to try and get her to eat enough.. she wouldn't be released until she would drink 25cc/ml of milk in one feeding. she started to drink from a bottle, until my milk came in, which took a while, since she couldn't nurse right away. By the 3rd day is when I got to hold her for the first time..it was a blessing to be able to hold her! I was able to keep her in my room the last 2 nights in the hospital, when she wasn't hooked up to all of the monitors, only the iv was connected. Day 5 and we were able to go home.. a happy day!
